10 Ways To Stay Focused With Your Weight Loss Journey

Well hello you beautiful bunch of people!! HAPPY MONDAY!!

Do you ever have a Monday that doesn’t feel like Monday? Yeh, I’m having one of those which is great. I was going through my old blog and found this post from 2015, so I wanted to share it with you because it’s still 100% relevant now.

I’ve been on constant journey with my weight and eating habits over the years and have tried to remove unhealthy mental and physical habits that have been somewhat damaging over the years (another blog post on that is coming), but I’ve always found that practicing tips like these has been really beneficial.

1. Be realistic:

Don’t set yourself a ridiculous goal like ” I’m going to lose 10 stone in a week”. It’s not going to work and the chances are if it does then it wasn’t done the healthy way. Set yourself goals that are possible to achieve; that way you won’t feel disheartened if you’re not 15 stone lighter after day two….which brings me onto my next point….

2. Have sub-goals:

You should have your main goal set in place whether that be to lose a certain amount of weight, or to fit into a size that you could never fit into before, but you should also have sub-goals which will keep you going. It helps a lot seeing some sort of progress no matter how small it is. I think one of my recent sub-goals was to see a bit more definition in my legs after 2 weeks…which I have, so yay for me 🙂

3. Don’t get drawn in to FAD diets:

I mean everyone is different, some work as a great kick starter for weight loss but for me, they don’t last. Oh gosh, about a year ago I did something called the General Motors diet for one week, just Google it. I was the crankiest son of a gun you could ever come across, hardly lost any weight and ate everything in sight as soon as it was over. I would avoid them.

4. Don’t rush:

Everything takes time, and if you want this to be a lifestyle change then let it happen gradually.

5. Avoid looking at yourself in the mirror for too long:

Ok, this is a weird one but it’s just something I’ve started doing. I’ve found that when I stare at myself every day and don’t see a change in my body I get disheartened and it sucks for a bit. I still look in the mirror to make sure I haven’t grown an extra boob or something (Although if it took me looking in the mirror to know I had a whole extra boob, that’s a bit worrying….but you get my drift) but it’s for a short period of time, and at the end of the week I can have a proper gander to see what else I need to work on and whether I see any changes…and if I don’t then it actually doesn’t feel as bad oddly enough.

6: Eat more veg:

Yeh whatever, I’ve heard that one before…yes you have my dear, because it’s true! I’ve developed a close relationship with the humble salad and I have no intention of looking back. It doesn’t matter how much exercise you’re banging out at the gym, if you’re eating isn’t up to scratch, you’re not going to see the results you may be looking for….there’s a reason why everyone harps on about diet.

7. Make a good playlist:

You probably wouldn’t think it but a good playlist makes a massive difference to a workout (well it does for me anyway)….I can push myself way more when I’ve got a good song on. I tend to play loud, fast songs with a lot of bass…or, on the other side of the spectrum, some slow sad songs to get me all caught up in my feelings…don’t ask me why, it just works.

8. If you don’t want to go to the gym. Don’t. Or do. Do what makes you happy:

Not much to say on that…sometimes I don’t want to go to the gym because I can’t be bothered, in which case I’ll go to the gym. Other times I don’t want to go to the gym because I’m too tired mentally and physically and just want to sit in my bed and watch The Mindy Project or Heroes Reborn all night…in which case I won’t go to the gym. Just double check your reasons for not going, and see which is better for you in the long run.

9. Wear whatever makes you most comfortable:

It’s your body, your workout, you don’t have to dress like all these Instagram models, but if you want to, then do. I saw someone working out in a denim shirt and jeans or something yesterday and was slightly confused but if that’s what she wanted to wear then who am I to stop her? She still did her workout…that being said, I wouldn’t recommend jeans…just a thought.

10: Don’t rely on scales to measure your progress:

Reason 1: Some scales lie…for real. I went on one of those full body measuring machines and it told me I shrunk a couple of centimetres and gained half a stone….went on a different one and it told me something completely different.
Reason 2: Muscle weighs more than fat
Reason 3: It’s not just about the number, it’s about how you look and feel; don’t let the scales dishearten you.

Bonus Tip:  LOVE YOUR BODY REGARDLESS!:

Thank you Mr Cliché… much appreciated. But it’s true… I don’t care how many times this needs to be repeated, it’s repeated for a reason. Don’t waste time comparing yourself to others, try and think positively as much as possible, and be kind to yourself. Seriously, be kind to yourself, be kind to your mind, and be kind to your body. I think that’s one that people forget nowadays.

Recipe: Healthy Chocolate, Raisin and Oatmeal Cookies (Vegan option also)

Evening guys! Yeh so I’ve been ill for the past week, most likely, if not certainly due to the SAVAGE weather here in London.

So seeing as I’m feeling ever so sorry for myself, I thought I’d post about something that always makes me happy. Food. I make these cookies all the time and if I’m completely honest with you, I never follow a set recipe; just change it up depending on how I want them that day. So if you’re into specific measurements, millilitres, tablespoons, grams…yeh…sorry to disappoint.

Ok so, ingredients:

* 1 cup: Porridge oats (any oats, we don’t discriminate here)

* 1 or 1/2 cups: Rice flour

* 1 egg ( or for the vegan option: flaxseed and water mix….ooooor, just don’t put the egg in, you really don’t need the egg that much)

* 1 ripened banana

* Baking powder- how much? I dunno, a big spoonful?

* As many raisins as you want; gosh this recipe is trash I’m going home! No I started so I’ll finish

* Chocolate, any, I usually use dark though because I prefer that over milk. Is that just me??

* Sprinkle of cinnamon

* Some almond milk (if you want them extra squishy)

* Brown sugar, or caramel flavoured sweetener for taste.

* You can add whatever else you want, peanut butter, nuts, Chris Evans…all optional but for now, that’s all.

Steps:

1. Blend the oats till they form a fine flour

2. Pour that into a bowl and add the rice flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and sugar. Mix well.

3. Blend the egg, banana, and caramel sweetener *if mixture is too firm, add another egg, banana, or a splash of milk

4. Crush the chocolate and add both that and the raisins to the dry mix and stir

5. Add wet ingredients to the dry and stir until they form a thickish mix. (It shouldn’t slip off the spoon)

6. Roll about a heaped spoonful into balls and then squash them flat. (The mixture may be quite sticky so coat your hands in a bit of rice flour before rolling)

7. Lay them out on some greaseproof paper, or tinfoil spritzed with some olive oil and place in a preheated oven. I think mine is usually set on 225 degrees. Let them cook for about 15 minutes and take them out when you feel they are hard enough. The longer they cook, the harder they will be.

And voila!

Hope you enjoy…let me know how it goes if any of you dare to try this out. Gonna go back to self pity now…no I joke, I’ve moved on to crying now. Ok I’ll stop with these lame jokes..have a good night darlings

❤️

Appreciation Post: Triple Whammy!

GOOD EEEEEVEEEENNIING DARLINGS!

Please excuse my extra-ness but I’m so frickin excited! When you read why you’ll probably wonder how sad my life could be to get so excited about all this but sometimes it’s good to appreciate the smaller things 😊. So, without further ado

1. MARVEL.

They’ve just released the new trailer for Infinity War and I almost cried…(blame my hormones for that part, cried watching ANTM last night because the girls were just so fierce). That and the upcoming release of Black Panther have brought me so much happiness today, so thank you Marvel!

2. HaloTop Ice Cream.

The US based company has brought out a whole bunch of delicious ice creams in 26 different flavours …Red Velvet, Birthday Cake, Green Tea Mochi, and so many others…and at 240-360 calories per pint? I better be thanking them! They have FINALLY come to the U.K. and brought 7 yummy flavours with them

It’s taken me a bajillion years to get my hands on them because they sell out so quickly but I finally did.

Grab them at Tesco, WholeFoods, or Ocado.

3. Music: As a whole yes, I love music, but right now I’m talking about two specific songs

* Manya: Mut4y and WizKid

This is a song I’ve been listening to on repeat by Mut4y and WizKid…so frickin catchy!! Here’s the video…

and

*Second 2 None: Mura Masa ft Christine And The Queens

I heard this song a long time ago but no matter how many times I listen to it, I never get bored or sick of it….absolutely adore Christine And The Queens, I’ve watched a bunch of interviews with her too and  she seems like such an intelligent, chill, lovely, person.

4. You Guys.

Just wanted to thank you guys for following my blog and putting up with my constant rambling…no I don’t have a bajillion followers but this isn’t all about numbers for me; it’s about genuine interactions. I appreciate you all ❤️

Have a great week guys 🙂

My Top 7 Tips On Losing Weight: Food Edition

I had a really mediocre workout today.

I worked up a sweat but I know I didn’t push myself as much as I usually do, and that’s because I’m bored. My gym is boring me, and so are my routines so I didn’t want to include that in this post till I find a way to spruce things up. So instead, I’ll just talk about food and weightloss as they weren’t lying when they said weight loss is 80% food and 20% exercise.

1. Meal Prep. There’s a reason why so many fitness and nutrition ‘gurus’ say this. It’s because it’s true. Failure to prepare is preparing to eat the entire contents of the fridge. Meal prep is important for a whole bunch of reasons but these 2 are big ones for me:

– You’re more likely to eat less healthy if you’re tired. Mate, if I’ve come home from a long day at work after a heavy gym session in the morning the last thing I want to do is cook. Nope. Not today. So, what will I do? I’d either pick up anything I see in the fridge/freezer, good or bad, or I’d get a takeaway. Now don’t get me wrong, you can have a takeaway every now and again but it can start to become a habit, which won’t aid with your weight loss.

– It makes you more accountable for what you put into your mouth: If you’re a habitual ‘I’ll just pick up a quick snack from the supermarket and go’ sort of person then you’re not really engaging in what you’re eating. And it’s easier to lose track of what you’ve consumed during the day if you’re just grabbing and eating. By mealprepping you can see and plan what you will eat during the day making it less likely for you to waver, and helping you plan out what your body will need. It’s also great for portion control

2. Don’t have a cheat day, have a cheat meal. I only came to this realisation recently after talking to my friend about all the crap I ate over the weekend and I realised that because I gave myself the entire day to stuff my face with whatever I want, I’m literally taking in all the calories that I had been working so hard to be in deficit of (does that even make sense?) during the week. So basically all my hard work went down the pan. And also, I tend graze or binge a lot so by me having free reign all day, I’m going to take full advantage of that. Not only that but I’m not appreciating what I’m eating as much because I’m eating the world. So plan a nice cheat meal, sit down, and enjoy it. AAAAANNNDD, if you want to take this  step further, make a healthy cheat meal! I know, I know, please, stay with me here, there are so many healthy versions of your favourite meals that you can try, I’m going to start posting more recipes on this blog but look up “healthy pizza”, “vegan brownies”, “dairy free ice cream” (I’m not vegan by the way, these have just been really good recipes that I’ve come across). That being said, if Dominoes is calling your name come cheat day, answer it, it would be rude not to.

cauliflower pizza

(that’s a cauliflower pizza btw…not mine, found this pic on le Google, looks yum right?)

3. If you’re hungry, try and do something instead. This is because a lot of the time ‘hunger’ can actually be boredom, well that’s definitely applicable to me. So busy yourself somehow and see how you feel in 15 minutes or so. If you’re still hungry then go grab a healthy snack.

4. Drink lots of water. Yep, you’ve heard this one before blablabla. You’ve heard it a lot because it’s actually important. Here are 5 benefits to drinking water:

  • Water flushes out toxins and also reduces bloating
  • Maintains regularity of bowel movements
  • Fills you up so you are more likely to eat less (which is why you are advised to drink a glass of water before a meal)
  • Promotes healthy skin
  • Fuels muscles- you lose water whilst exercising through sweat, so refuelling your water supply also refuels your muscles which helps them get stronger

LOOK HOW HAPPY THESE STOCK IMAGE PEOPLE LOOK! WATER CLEARLY MAKES YOU HAPPY!

This lady hasn’t quite got the hang of it yet….IT GOES IN YOUR MOUTH HUN!

5. Increase proteins, fruits and veg, decrease carbohydrates. Note, I didn’t say remove carbs, your body still requires carbohydrates so don’t eradicate them completely…Side note: I’ve got 4 Weddings playing in the background and they keep saying cake, please help me!

This is a good example of what your plate should look like

healthy eating

6. Avoid fad diets. Fad diets may be good for a quick fix- maybe you need to fit into an outfit for an event, but the results are in most cases just temporary and will probably just lead to a cycle of yoyo dieting. Try not to just focus on losing weight but implementing healthy and realistic eating habits.

7. Be wary of celebrity endorsed diets/products. I don’t care that you saw Beyonce’ lose weight drinking cayenne pepper and lemon or whatever it was, Beyonce’ probably has a whole team of nutritionists and trainers behind her who helped her with that weight loss.  “Ahhh but Cheryl did the baby food diet and lost a bunch of wei….” BUT ARE YOU CHERYL THOUGH?? Everybody’s bodies are different, they look different and they work different so what may work for your favourite celebrities, may not work for you. I also think you should avoid comparing yourselves to them also, you’re allowed to see what the media allows you to see, you don’t know what they have gone through, undergone (surgically), or do to get that body. You are you, and that’s good enough, so stop trying to be them and concentrate on being the best version of yourself you can be.

crying baby

Ok I think I’m going to stop there because I could go on forever, if you want any more tips feel free to let me know

Have a great day
